The Bible as Literature - NEW! | 9/29 Tuesday |
|
Senior
High - Room 157 |
6
Weeks Fee $40.00 |
|
|
The
Bible has often been read (or dismissed) as an inspired book mediated
through our cultural or religious beliefs. In this class, we will
try and shed those interpretive glasses and instead read the Bible
as a book written by people in a certain time and a certain place.
We will examine the narrative stories in the Book of Genesis. We
will use literary, linguistic and historical analysis. Reading
the Bible as literature can enhance, upend or modify our former
beliefs about the Bible. |

Universal Spirituality: The Key to Everyone Getting Along - NEW! | 9/30 Wednesday |
|
Senior
High - Room 150 |
6
Weeks Fee $40.00 |
|
|
More
and more people consider themselves skeptics due to all the conflicts
and turmoil involving religion. Has this, or other things, bewildered
or confused your spirituality? Come explore the deeper dimensions
of reality which all people (even politicians) share, regardless
of faith and culture. If the concept of enlightenment is valid,
what is it and how do people get there? Is there a “correct” way
to ask for something from God? We’ll do our best to tune
into more profound levels of being and understanding, through discussion
and self-inquiry into “deep” philosophical questions.
Bring a pen, cushion and notebook. We’ll talk about religions,
psychology, spiritual evolution, see some videos, contemplate human
dilemmas and do a variety of meditations at the end of each class. |
